Risk factors that increase the chance to developing breast cancer are many. Some of these we already knew, however we don’t know how these factors cause the development of a cancer cell. But to help us understand how, here are some risk factors that we need to consider:

Like for example, the menstrual cycle of women started at a younger age before 12 years old or menopausal later after 55 years old have a slightly increased risk. However, the higher risk for women to have breast cancer is when breast tissue is in dense volume. Other risk factors, such as exposure to previous chest radiation, having no children, being over weight, use of oral contraceptives in the last 10 years, using combined hormone therapy after menopausal and alcoholic use increases the risk of breast cancer.

By avoiding such factors, chances to have breast cancer will be reduced. But what if you already obtained breast cancer, what kind of treatment will be used? Treatment for patient who suffer breast cancer have many options and need to discuss with your health-care team. The following are the basic treatment modalities that are used for the treatment of breast cancer, like surgery, breast-conserving surgery, mastectomy, radical mastectomy, modified radical mastectomy, radiation therapy, external beam radiation, brachytherapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy, targeting HER2/Neu protein, drugs that target new tumor blood vessels, and alternative treatments.

Why not discuss these treatments with your health-care team?
